3 design ideas for fall home improvement
As we transition into colder weather, many homeowners are also moving their home improvement projects indoors. With so many areas of the home to choose from, it is hard to know where or how to start. That is especially when it comes to home renovations that will eat up time this fall and winter. But according to many design professionals, whichever room you start with, the key this season is to be bold.
With so many tips and tricks for the ultimate interior already circulating around, many interior designers say that the best way to get the aesthetic you want is to go all-in with your color palette, statement pieces and accent styles. Here are a few ways to achieve that autumnal ambiance in your home:
Ceilings: An often overlooked opportunity for a unique design element, the ceilings of your home are a great canvas to incorporate some added drama to a room. If you have relatively high ceilings, painting them with a pattern or bold color is a great way to make the space feel put together and cozy. Painting the ceilings white can make the room feel shorter than it actually is because they bounce light abruptly and don't draw the eye at all.
Color: No matter what color you go for, it's important to commit to your choice. If you love a deep red, paint all the walls, and find accents that work with it to create a unified look. Remember: You are the one that has to live in this space, so if you love a color, just go for it!
Hallways and foyers: "Try wallpaper or a painted finish in rooms that are pass-throughs, like hallways, foyers or landings," writes Zillow contributor Michelle Workman. "These spaces are often overlooked and are ideal for daring designs and colors. Because you and your guests spend very little time in these spaces you can make a dramatic statement without it being too overpowering."
If you are trying to soak up as much of the summer sunshine as you can before fall begins, then a great weekend project is right on the front steps! Repainting, replacing or refinishing your entry doors is a great way to round out the exterior of your home in a quick and inexpensive way.
