Pro Strokes ltd reviews

Stephen Dobson

23/09/14

Really impressed with the team at Pro Strokes in Leeds. We approached six different painting contractors for a quote to paint the outside walls of our 5 bed house. Only three bothered to turn up! Gavin Toner of Pro Strokes was by far the most competitive and, more importantly, he said they would complete the work in only five days (when the other companies needed 10-12 days!) The team from Pro Strokes arrived on time each morning. We smashing lads a with brilliant sense of humour and a superb positive "Can Do" attitude. They were extremely hard working and very trustworthy. Better still, they finished the job in only four days, As a result, I have asked them to quote for the updating of our offices and will continue to sing their praises. After all, reliable, trustworthy trades people are really hard to find these days. If you're looking for any decorating works, I can highly recommend Pro Strokes.

Home Improvements for the Winter periods

Home Improvements for the Winter period

Sometimes, in the winter, it seems like our home improvement projects come to a standstill and have to be pushed off until summer.  But, there are many projects that you can do in the winter that will keep you busy, help you make your house look that much better, and let you get the improvements done that you want to without waiting for the snow to melt.  Sure, you aren't going to be outside in January painting the outside of the house or working on the landscaping, but there are other things that you can do on the interior that will make the winter go by much quicker.

The Bathroom

One of the best winter home improvement projects is a bathroom remodel; this can be done relatively quickly and easily. It is even better if you have a separate bathroom, because you can shut one down while you remodel it and just use the other one.  You will be able to do a lot of work on your bathroom in the winter, you can replace the tiles, replace the tub or get it relined and you can give the room a fresh coat of paint.  Most of these ideas are simple to do.  Even simpler, you can add a lot to your bathroom simply by replacing the medicine cabinets, just be sure that you measure them so that you know exactly what size you need to get when you head out to purchase the new cabinets.  Changing fixtures are also a great idea, jazz up your bathroom with a new shower head, new sink faucet handles and new hardware on the cabinets.  Last, but not least, make sure you give it a fresh coat of paint, if you are having a dark and dreary winter, it will really brighten everything up a lot.

The Basement

If you have a basement, this is a great time to work on that.  If it is unfinished, there is a lot of work that you can do towards refinishing it and getting it ready to be more of a useable space.  Look into ways that you can separate out areas either with a false wall or by building in a wall, look at ceiling tiles, and maybe even finishing the floors.  Most floors have concrete in the basement, what you can do is lay a floor over that.  A great idea is to use hardwood floors or a laminate flooring that will go over the top of the concrete well.  For these flooring options, a lot of them actually have clip together flooring so you don't even have to drill holes or set it, which saves you a lot of time since concrete isn't exactly the most forgiving of materials.  You can add in rooms if you need to, if you want to add in a bathroom, do your plumbing in the winter, you generally will have a place for a bathroom set up if you planned your basement properly, so all that you will have to do is work on installing and getting the rest of the indoor piping done.  Basements are great areas to work on in the winter because they aren't generally a space where everyone is in, so you can work on it and not be in the way of anyone else.

The Kitchen

There are little things that you can also do in your kitchen.  Although you probably don't want to do a complete kitchen remodel in the winter, try doing little things.  You can tile your backsplash by your sink; you can replace cabinets and hardware.  You can even switch out flooring if you want too.  The clip together flooring is probably a great option for this because it won't take up a lot of time and it will come together quickly so your kitchen won't actually be out of commission.  You can do things like install a new dishwasher which can be done in a day, or put in a new garbage disposal.  All of these things are quick and easy ways to bring your kitchen to life in the middle of the winter.

Remodelling doesn't have to stop simply because there is snow on the ground; it just means that you need to find projects that are suitable for the winter.  There are all kinds of great options out there for winter remodelling projects, start with them one at a time and you'll be happy that you can take a break in the summer instead of trying to remodel all summer long.

3 design ideas for home improvement

3 design ideas for home improvement

3 design ideas for fall home improvement
As we transition into colder weather, many homeowners are also moving their home improvement projects indoors. With so many areas of the home to choose from, it is hard to know where or how to start. That is especially when it comes to home renovations that will eat up time this fall and winter. But according to many design professionals, whichever room you start with, the key this season is to be bold.
With so many tips and tricks for the ultimate interior already circulating around, many interior designers say that the best way to get the aesthetic you want is to go all-in with your color palette, statement pieces and accent styles. Here are a few ways to achieve that autumnal ambiance in your home:
Ceilings: An often overlooked opportunity for a unique design element, the ceilings of your home are a great canvas to incorporate some added drama to a room. If you have relatively high ceilings, painting them with a pattern or bold color is a great way to make the space feel put together and cozy. Painting the ceilings white can make the room feel shorter than it actually is because they bounce light abruptly and don't draw the eye at all.
Color: No matter what color you go for, it's important to commit to your choice. If you love a deep red, paint all the walls, and find accents that work with it to create a unified look. Remember: You are the one that has to live in this space, so if you love a color, just go for it!
Hallways and foyers: "Try wallpaper or a painted finish in rooms that are pass-throughs, like hallways, foyers or landings," writes Zillow contributor Michelle Workman. "These spaces are often overlooked and are ideal for daring designs and colors. Because you and your guests spend very little time in these spaces you can make a dramatic statement without it being too overpowering."
If you are trying to soak up as much of the summer sunshine as you can before fall begins, then a great weekend project is right on the front steps! Repainting, replacing or refinishing your entry doors is a great way to round out the exterior of your home in a quick and inexpensive way.

Homeowners are spending more money than ever on home improvements

Heres 8 ways to help the sale of your house.... Pro Strokes ltd

Heres 8 ways to help the sale of your house....

1.      Cut out the clutter

Although this isn’t strictly DIY, it’s the most cost effective and easiest way to maximise the potential of your home.

When selling any house, the trick is to help potential buyers to see their own stuff in your house, and your possessions will distract them from doing this. Get a friend round, and ask them for their honest opinion on what is taking up too much space and causing a distraction, then take their advice on what needs to go.

Rather than just shoving things into cupboards, or a spare bedroom (remember, potential buyers will look in there!) pack things into boxes and store them in the attic, or consider renting a storage unit for a month.

Having clear rooms will help to maximise the space in your home, making it feel bigger and increasing the potential value.

 2.      Sort out your kitchen cabinets

You don’t need to invest in a new kitchen to make your home more attractive, but giving your kitchen cabinets an overhaul is definitely worth the time and investment.

Replacing the handles and any broken hinges is a good place to start and replacing or repainting your cabinets in white or light, neutral colours will help to refresh the room without breaking the bank.

 3.      Decorating tired rooms

Bringing rooms up to date with a fresh lick of paint is a great, inexpensive way of improving the look and value of your home.

Keep it simple, and opt for a plain, light and neutral colour palette that will make rooms seem bigger, brighter and universally appealing. Avoid the temptation to go off script and experiment with feature walls bright colours or patterns – it’s best to stay fairly safe so that the scheme will appeal to a wide range of buyers.

 4.      Sort out the front

You only have one chance to make a first impression, and the first image potential buyers will see is the exterior of your property – which is why it’s really important to make sure this looks good.

Touching up the paintwork, cleaning the windows, gutters and pathway, tidying the garden and removing ornaments and mowing the lawn will all hep to ensure your home looks its best. You might also want to consider power washing your drive and path, and painting your fence/cutting your hedge to make things look extra neat and tidy.

Additional touches, like making sure you’ve got a nice house number on the door, and some potted plants or hanging baskets by the entrance will make it feel more welcoming.

5.      Optimise the lighting

You don’t need to go mad when it comes to lighting, but replacing a few fixtures can make a huge difference to the look and feel of your home.

The first step should be to replace any bulbs that need changing, and get someone to look at the wiring if any of the fixtures aren’t working. If you’ve got any rooms that feel dark or dingy, then consider fitting a higher watt bulb to maximise light, or placing a separate lamp in the room to make it seem brighter.

If you can afford to swap out lights, then get rid of those old fluorescent strip lights in the kitchen, and anything that looks particularly dated or garish.

6.      Freshen up the flooring

Flooring definitely divides opinion, so there isn’t much point in investing heavily if you’re planning to sell.

What is important is making the most of what you have, so deep clean you hard floors and polish them to make them look their best, and consider borrowing or renting a steam carpet cleaner to remove any stubborn stains and give them a new lease of life.

7.      Difference in the details

Sometimes, it’s the little things that make the difference, so look around your home for anything that looks out of place, damaged or dated.

Something as simple as replacing a worn out shower curtain or ragged bath mat can transform the look and feel of your bathroom, as can a new set of tea towels in the kitchen.

Old, dirty or damaged curtains or shabby curtain rails can really hamper the appeal of a room, so consider investing in new ones to freshen up your rooms.

8.      Create additional living space

It’s no secret that extra rooms add value to homes, so try to make your additional spaces, like attics, basements, garages and sheds, look like usable, liveable rooms.

When it comes to garages, make them look like usable space, rather than just a storage room. Leave the car out of the garage if possible, and organise your stuff to maximise floor space. Make sure the lights work, and clean the floor, and of possible, clear the sides and create a workspace, so that potential buyers can imagine using the room for crafts or hobbies.

If possible, keep your attic and basement/cellar fairly clean and clear, so that buyers see these as potential living spaces.

Alternatively, you can get creative – could you transform your cupboard under the stairs into a small home office space by fitting a couple of shelves and adding an office chair?
